Dec. 5, 2024 - THE ATHLETIC

Arsenal assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg has agreed a contract until 2027.

The 54-year-old’s new deal is not yet signed but the process is in the final stages.

The agreement follows manager Mikel Arteta also extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium until 2027 in September.

The Athletic previously reported that Arsenal are in the final stages of extending the contracts of Arteta’s backroom staff, including set-piece coach Nico Jover, in addition to Carlos Cuesta, Miguel Molina, and Inaki Cana.

They are expected to join the manager in receiving extensions until 2027, along with a significant pay rise.

The Dutchman turned instead to coaching, spending 13 years in the academy at Rotterdam-based Feyenoord, the current Dutch champions.

During that time, he helped bring through a host of stars including future Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

Stuivenberg has since coached in the Netherlands, Belgium, Jordan and England. He has previously been a director of football and the director of a youth department in addition to his sole manager role in senior football, a year as Genk’s manager in 2016.

He spent two years as Manchester United’s assistant manager under Ryan Giggs and Louis van Gaal, before joining Giggs’ coaching staff during the 51-year-old’s time in charge of Wales.

Stuivenberg became an assistant at Arsenal in December 2019 as part of Arteta’s coaching staff and has won the FA Cup during his time in north London.

Arsenal, who are seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, are next in action against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
