James "Scooggy" Smith

His long and illustrious career includes any milestones. James "Scooggy" graduated from Coatesville high school in 1964 . He attended Maryland state college, now the University of Maryland, Eastern shore, and in 1968 earned a BS degree in health, physical education and recreation. After college, "Scooggy" became an educator and from 1975 to 1982 he coached the freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams at Devon Preparatory School. In 1982, He returned this high school, alma mater to coach the Coatesville High girls’ varsity basketball team. Scooggy assisted Coach Jerry Quedenfeld with the Coatesville High boys’ team from 1985 to 1993.
