De Marchi, l'urlo rosso di Buja

L'urlo nella nebbia. Liberatorio. Un anno dopo, Alessandro De Marchi torna a vincere. Alla sua maniera, da Rosso di Buja. E sempre alla Vuelta: ad Alcaudete nella settima tappa nel 2014, ad Alto Campoo nella 14esima nel 2015. Il primo del trittico di tapponi che con la crono di mercoledì a Burgos decideranno la corsa. Questa vittoria però ha un sapore speciale. Oltre a tutti gli avversari il friulano s'è messo agli spalle una primavera maledetta, con quel rientro dal lungo infortunio che sembrava non arrivare mai. Sulla Fuente del Chivo è invece arrivata un'impresa vera, resa ancora più leggendaria da quella atmosfera da tregenda ai quasi duemila metri di quota. Se De Marchi, immenso a Ponferrada un anno fa, voleva dare un segnale al Ct Cassani per il mondiale di Richmond: non poteva scegliere scenario migliore. 15 Distance: 175km Category: High Mountain Highest point: 1,230m Head in any direction in Asturias and you’ll find a little known but fearsome ascent that’s waiting to have its reputation sealed by the Vuelta’s passing. On this occasion, it’s the Jitu de Escarandi, which rises from the town of Cabrales up to and beyond Sotres. Although not especially high, it’s tough enough to rattle anyone’s composure this far into a grand tour and beautiful enough to make a lasting impression on spectators. Its gradient of 8% over 13km doesn’t appear obscenely difficult but it almost flattens out for a kilometre between some steep ramps on the first half and some super steep ones in the second, particularly above Sotres.
