At Indiana, Thomas played under head coach Bob Knight and the pair led Indiana to win the 1981 NCAA National Championship, defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels. Isiah Thomas left Indiana after his sophomore season and was the number two overall pick in the 1981 NBA draft. Isiah Thomas played for the Detroit Pistons for 13 seasons.
