Jack Rudoni slots home the  Sky Blues’ second goal at Home Park 29 Aug 2026 - Coventry Telegraph JIM BROWN THE Sky Blues successfully moved into the third round of the League Cup in midweek with a 4-2 win at Plymouth’s Home Park. City’s early goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Jack Rudoni hinted at a big victory in Devon but slack defending let the Pilgrims back into the tie before shrewd substitutions made the victory safe. Ephron Mason-Clark and a Victor Torp penalty sent City through to the third round . Scouring the club records I discovered it was 36 years since the team scored two goals inside the first five minutes of a game . It was February 1990 at home game to Chelsea when Steve Livingstone scored after 27 seconds getting on the end of Steve Ogrizovic’s long punt . A minute and a half later Chelsea’s Kevin Mcallister put the ball into his own net after Dave Beasant had parried Cyrille Regis’ shot. As at Plymouth, Chelsea came back into the game and goals from Tony Dorigo an...

NEW SIGNING IN CONTENTION AS SKY BLUES PREPARE FOR FIRST PREM HOME GAME IN 25 YEARS Lampard ponders numbers game with Sky Blues PINNOCK ARRIVAL RAISES QUESTIONS OVER WHETHER PLAYERS COULD LEAVE I don’t necessarily want to have good lads training  and  training  and training and then not getting in squads.    - Frank Lampard 29 Aug 2026 - Coventry Telegraph By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter ETHAN Pinnock’s arrival from Brentford this week took Coventry City’s central defensive department up to six – seven if you include Manchester City loan signing Stephen Mfuni who, one suspects, is coming in more as competition at left-back than one of the central spots.Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard But it begs the question as to whether the Sky Blues can carry so many specialist defenders in an increasingly sizeable squad that has seen 11 summer signings to date and only one senior – midfielder Jamie Allen – go the other way. Bobby Thomas and Aurele Amenda started at Arsenal on...

Palmer has that gangly physicality, like a very clever cartoon alpaca 29 Aug 2026 - THE GUARDIAN / Sport Barney Ronay This week Central Cee launched his new Premier League song, called The Team . It owes its existence to a youth-centred, fist-bumping corporate tie-in with Coca-cola, the press release for which appears to have involved a man in golf-casual clothing frowning at his computer screen for half an hour before typing “cool urban street words, what are?” into the AI search box, then nipping off for a quick strategy lunch with Roger from the Bluesky Synergy hub. The song is really good, because Central Cee is really good. He’s super-smart with words, funny and snappy, but also surprisingly tender and raw. And yes, this is an oh-no-dad’s-talking-about-rap moment. You can just skip a few lines if you like. The whole thing moves on to Cole Palmer very quickly, why he’s both the best English footballer and very easy to love currently, for various reasons. Central Cee is perhaps the ...
