Diane Keaton 1946-2025 - ‘A legend, an icon and a truly kind human being’

PHOTOGRAPH: JEROD HARRIS/GETTY IMAGES 13 Oct 2025 - The Guardian Peter Bradshaw The millpond calm of her face, its beauty, its gentleness, its openness and unworldliness became even more heart stopping when she laughed or cried – and generations of filmgoers felt their own crush on Diane Keaton escalate into something more. She was not just America’s sweetheart : Keaton was the sophisticated, sweet-natured, unaffectedly sensual woman with whom America was unrequitedly in love. Diane Keaton was out of America’s league. In the golden age of the American New Wave in the 1970s, she was at the centre of that era’s great comedy and tragedy: as Kay, the innocent wife of Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone in Coppola’s The Godfather (1972), she was the aghast, complicit witness to mob toxicity and murder, paralysed with disillusion and fear as she was shut out of her husband’s dealings in his private sanctum – and then, in the next film, like a modernday Medea , reveals to the icily infuriated ...

Diane Keaton, 79, Quirky Scene-Stealer With a Dry Wit, Dies

The New York Times Lunedì 13 ottobre 2025 Pagina 28 Diane Keaton, the vibrant, sometimes unconventional, always charmingly self-deprecating actress who won an Oscar for Woody Allen’s comedy “ Annie Hall ” and appeared in some 100 movie and television roles, an almost equal balance of them in comedies like “ Sleeper ” and “ The First Wives Club ” and dramas like “ The Godfather ” and “ Marvin’s Room ,” has died. She was 79. Her death was confirmed by Dori Rath , who produced a number of Ms. Keaton’s most recent films . She did not say where or when Ms. Keaton died or cite a cause. Ms. Keaton was 31 and a veteran of eight films, most of them comedies, when she starred as the title character in “Annie Hall” (1977), a single woman in New York City with ambitions, insecurities and definite style. Annie is known for cheerful psychiatric breakthroughs, fashions that look like men’s wear, questionable driving skills and lingering hints of an alltoo-wholesome Midwestern upbringing. She accept...

Assessing the best and worst of the season so far 13 Oct 2025 - The Guardian Arsenal  Bernard Azulay @GoonerN5 OnlineGooner.com Story so far  Top of the table, looking down at our rivals, despite still not really firing on all cylinders … it’s early days, but we’re struggling to keep a lid on the excitement here. Having star turns such as Havertz, Madueke and now Ødegaard succumb to long-term injury is a timely reminder of the risk of being derailed, but it does feel like we’ve never been better equipped to cope with the slings and arrows, in terms of squad depth. Arteta is still unwrapping his new toys and figuring out the best way to use them – can’t wait to see how the chemistry develops. Best 90 mins Newcastle away. Worst 90 mins  These were far from our worst all-round displays, but the source of most frustration so far was the timid approach taken against both Liverpool and Manchester City when our two biggest competitors were really there for the taking. Best goal...
