Petersen opened the scoring against promoted VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 1 to extend his tally to a club-leading 88 competitive goals. It looked like being a routine win for Freiburg , who were 3-0 up by the 48th minute, but the concession of two second-half goals set up a nervy finale and left Christian Streich with plenty of food for thought. The Bundesliga's longest-serving active coach is still without goalkeeper Mark Flekken , meaning Mainz loanee Florian Müller will continue between the posts. Defender Keven Schlotterbeck and midfielder Janik Haberer are also sidelined. Ex- Bayern Munich winger Jeong Woo-yeong and Lucas Höler joined Petersen in attack against Stuttgart

Niederlechner scored two of his team-leading 13 Bundesliga goals in last season's corresponding fixture.  Augsburg led Dortmund 2-0 and 3-1, only to end up on the receiving end of a 5-3 defeat in what was one of the standout games of the campaign.  Die Függerstädter lost influential left-back Philipp Max in the summer, but will have been encouraged by the nature of their opening-day win at Union Berlin .  With ex-Union goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz installed between the posts, experienced summer signing Daniel Caligiuri taking up a position on the right-hand flank and forward Michael Gregoritsch brought back in from the cold following a mis

Nor has it been too far removed from memory that we witnessed their magical run into the knockout stages of the Europa League under Markus Weinzierl .  But as the Bavarian-side look to once again embark on a campaign where they aim to climb back up the rungs of the top-flight, it is off the back of a 2019/20 campaign which was not too far off from ending in disaster. Finishing just five-points above the relegation playoff spot , Fuggerstädter must find a way to channel the small handful of glory years in their young Bundesliga history. In what will be a decade in the German top flight this season, there’s no better time for improvement, even if the outlook is potentially grim. K

https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2020/2020-21-bundsliga-preview-wolfsburg/ 2019-20: 7. As is always the case in the Bundesliga. The race to finish in a European position is a close one and the 2019/20 season was no different. Just seven points separated Hoffenheim in sixth and Eintracht Frankfurt in ninth, with Wolfsburg occupying seventh , the final European spot and just one point ahead of Freiburg .  The Wolves have suffered a torrid time of late under the tutelage of Valérien Ismaël, Andries Jonker and Martin Schmidt between October 2016 and February 2019 but the appointment of Bruno Labbadia steadied the ship before bosses appointed LAS K head coach Oliver Glasner on 1 July 2019. Under the Austrian , Wolfsburg have looked like a competing side. Glasner took Wolfsburg on a nine-game unbeaten run at the start of his tenure in the Bundesliga before a 3-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on matchday nine.  With a preference to play a 3-4-3 in the early stages, it wasn’t unti
