The waving flags, tireless chanting, the smell of frites, and the hectic fan zones add something unique to this race which is a spectacle already within itself. The Tour of Flanders brings together all the elements that define the cycling culture of the Flemish region: steep bergs, cobblestones and passion. This Belgian region is a territory that knows how to care for and protect the cobbled roads that are part of its history. To celebrate the return of the highly-anticipated Monument race, we look at six of the most popular bergs in Flandrian history. L’uno-due Giro delle Fiandre e Parigi-Roubaix è lo zenit ideologico di tutto il movimento. La Ronde  poi, nel bel mezzo della campagna del Nord, a mo' di simbolo identitario di una terra, le Fiandre, e di una nazione (il Belgio) che ingloba due mondi paralleli, talvolta ostili. CARTOLINE DAL BELGIO Bruges (Brugge...), Gand (Gent...), Harelbeke, Charleroi, Liegi, Lovanio. Le piazze colme alla partenza delle gare raccontano, meglio di un’analisi sociologica, il senso del ciclismo (e della vita) per i belgi. Un’idea, totalizzante, della corsa ciclistica come metafora e sentimento collettivo . Il Belgio, oggi più che ieri, sempre più centro di gravità permanente e aleph di questo sport: a dispetto del marketing globale, dei soli undici milioni di abitanti , delle contrapposizioni culturali e politiche.
