By David Coughlan 11:52, 9 MAY 2021 UPDATED14:54, 9 MAY 2021 Kevin Kimmage still has the bike. The Giant Cadex has been collecting cobwebs in his shed for a while now, but it’s too special to ever part with. Thirty years ago, Kimmage rode the bike to victory in the 1991 Rás, a win that put him firmly on the road to the Barcelona Olympics. It was also hugely significant for his famous cycling family. His father Christy had been national champion in 1962 and between Kevin and his three brothers — Paul, Raphael and Christopher — they had won nearly every race on the domestic scene. “But the one race the family had never won was the Rás,” says Kimmage. “It was nice I won it, but it really didn’t ma

The Dundrum sportsman spoke to Newstalk’s Chris Donoghue about his rise to the top of the cycling world in 1987 and how his achievement briefly gave the Irish public a chance to reflect on something other than violence in Northern Ireland and economic woe. Roche went from working as an apprentice in a dairy factory to Tour de France winner in eight years and captured the public’s imagination with a stunning series of cycling results. Now living in France, Roche recalled that he had to order in a cycling magazine at his local newsagents each week as there was no proper coverage of the sport

In a scathing report, the N.C.A.A. noted that Brown had previously coached at Kansas and U.C.L.A., yet made “choices against his better judgment when it came to compliance issues” at S.M.U., where he is preparing for his fourth season. “These choices included not reporting possible violations in his program, initially lying to the enforcement staff during the investigati

The workout ended with a huddle near the baseline. "We're back!" the players chanted as they broke the huddle. "We're back!" Standing a few feet away, head coach Larry Brown could only smile and shake his head. "Seriously," he said, "can you believe these kids? Their outlook, their attitudes? Unbelievable." This wasn't the first time Brown had marveled at his team's resiliency. He did it in March 2014, when the Mustangs reached the NIT title game after being inexplicably passed over for the NCAA tournament despite a 23-9 regular-season re

'WHERE YOU GONNA BE NEXT YEAR, LARRY?'

The door to the Carol Lee doughnut shop is opening, and the 44-year-old grandson of the baker for the czar of Russia walks in. He knows as well as anyone in Lawrence, Kans. that the strawberry butterflies and the blueberry fritters at Muncher's Bakery are better than anything behind the glass counter at Carol Lee . And yet, there's Larry Brown walking past the Kansas basketball schedule and the lost-cat advertisement thumbtacked to the Carol Lee bulletin board, looking at the pictures of the counter girl's new baby taped to the wall, getting a grin from the baby's grandma, who bakes the doughnuts each dawn, and trading "Mornin's" with the man in over
