Butler Bulldogs Preview @ G'Town

CAPITAL VISIT

Butler will travel to the east coast for the second time in four days when it visits Georgetown for a BIG EAST game on Saturday, Jan. 17. 

The two teams will be meeting for the second time this season when they square off at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., at 5 p.m. (ET) in a game that will be televised on FOX Sports 1. 

The Bulldogs are coming off their second conference road win of the season, a 79-75 overtime victory at #21 Seton Hall on Tuesday (Jan. 13). 

The win lifted Butler to 13-5 on the year and 3-2 in the BIG EAST. 

The 13 wins are one shy of Butler's entire season total of a year ago, while the two conference road victories match last year's production. 

Georgetown also picked up a league road win this week with a 78-72 victory at DePaul on Tuesday (Jan. 13). 

The Hoyas stand 11-5 on the year and 3-2 in league play. 

Butler and Georgetown met in a rare non-conference game between conference foes earlier this season at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. 

The Bulldogs won that contest, 64-58, to claim third place in the élite eight-team tournament.

The game at Georgetown will be Butler's fourth road test in six BIG EAST outings this season. The Bulldogs will play five of their next six games at home, beginning with a 9 p.m. (ET) contest against Creighton on Wednesday (Jan. 21).

LAST OUTING

Butler lost a lead late in the second half, regained it in overtime and held on to defeat nationally-ranked Seton Hall on Tuesday. 

It was Butler's first overtime game of the season and the second straight conference road win for the Bulldogs. 

Butler rallied from a 32-28 halftime deficit to build as much as an eight-point lead in the second half, but Seton Hall closed with a 14-7 run in the final two minutes to tie the game and send it into overtime. Junior Kellen Dunham hit a three-point field goal just over a minute into the extra period to give Butler a 70-67 lead, and the Bulldogs held the upper hand the rest of the way.

RANKED WIN

Butler improved to 3-2 this season against teams ranked in the "Top 25" with the victory at #21 Seton Hall. 

The Bulldogs defeated #5/6 North Carolina in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in November and then began January with a win at #15/17 St. John's. Butler's "Top 25" losses came to #21 Oklahoma at the Battle 4 Atlantis and at #6/5 Villanova on New Year's Eve. 

Butler's current seniors have six wins over teams ranked in the "Top 25." 

20-20: Butler's offense was fueled at Seton Hall by the one-two punch of juniors Roosevelt Jones and Kellen Dunham. 

Jones led the Bulldogs with a season-high 23 points, including 17 in the second half and overtime period. 

Dunham, the Bulldogs' leading scorer on the season, added 21 points, his fourth 20-point scoring performance of the year. 

The two combined for nine of Butler's 12 points in the overtime period. 

It was the first time this season that Butler's had two players score 20 or more points in the same game.

SCORING MOVE

Guard Kellen Dunham, who became the 36th Butler player to score 1,000 career points in December, continued his climb on Butler's all-time scoring list at Seton Hall. 

Dunham boosted his career scoring total to 1,153 points and moved into the No. 26 spot on the all-time list, ahead of former teammate Andrew Smith (2009-13). 

The 6-6 guard trails Chris Miskel (1992-96) in the No. 25 position by 17 points. 

Last year, Dunham ranked seventh in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.4), while becoming just the fifth sophomore in Butler history to score 500 points in a season.

Kellen Dunham is currently ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.8).

CONFERENCE BOOST

Junior Roosevelt Jones posted his highest point total in more than two years with his 23-point performance at Seton Hall. 

The 6-4 guard hit nine of 15 shots against the Pirates and five of eight attempts from the free throw line. He also added eight rebounds in the win. 

Jones, who missed all of last season with a wrist injury, has lifted his scoring and rebounding averages since the start of BIG EAST play. He's averaging 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in his five conference games. 

Jones is one of just two players (Kris Dunn of Providence is the other) who rank in the "Top 20" in the BIG EAST in scoring, rebounding and assists.

BOARD RULING

Senior Kameron Woods recorded his fourth consecutive game with ten or more rebounds in Butler's win at Seton Hall. The 6-9 forward led the Bulldogs with 15 caroms, including 11 in the second half and overtime period. It was the third-highest single game rebounding total of his Butler career and the ninth time this season that he's reached double-figures in rebounds. Woods is averaging 10.6 rebounds against BIG EAST foes this season.

EXCLUSIVE CLUB

Kameron Woods, one of just nine players in Butler basketball history to record 700 career rebounds, stands in fourth place on Butler's all-time rebounding list with 789 career caroms. 

Only three players in Butler history have reached 800 career rebounds. 

Woods, who led the BIG EAST in rebounding (9.0) a year ago, has been Butler's top rebounder 13 times this year, including ten of the past 13 games. He's had at least ten rebounds in 29 different games during his Butler career.

STEAL WORKS

Senior point-guard Alex Barlow is ranked second in the BIG EAST and 17th in the NCAA Division I in steals per game (2.33 SPG). 

He's had at least one steal in 15 of the Bulldogs' 18 games this season, and he enters this weekend in sixth place on Butler's all-time list with 155 career thefts, one behind Butler Hall of Fame guard Darrin Fitzgerald (1983-87) in the No. 5 position. 

Barlow matched the highest single game total in the BIG EAST this season with a career-high seven steals against Providence a week ago. 

Alex Barlow is ranked seventh in the NCAA Division I in total steals (42).

HONOR ROLL

Alex Barlow, who averaged 14.0 points and shot 55.6% from three-point range in Butler's two games last week, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. 

It was his first time on the Honor Roll this season and the third time he's earned the honor during his Butler career.

CAREER NIGHT

Sophomore Andrew Chrabascz certainly will remember his first visit to the Verizon Center last year. The 6-7 forward was given just his third collegiate start when Butler played at Georgetown a year ago, and he responded with a career-high 24 points. He hit nine of 13 shots from the field and five of six from the free throw line in the game, and he added four rebounds, one assist and one steal in a career-high 34 minutes on the floor.

•Kameron Woods leads the BIG EAST and ranks ninth in the NCAA Division I in total rebounds (170). He's had nine or more rebounds in 11 games this season.
