SEDLER FAMILY MEN'S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH

Xavier University announced a gift from Tom and Genny Sedler to endow its Head Men's Basketball coaching position. Thanks to the largest donation ever made to the men's basketball program, the position of Men's Head Basketball Coach will be re-named the "Sedler Family Men's Head Basketball Coach." This is the first endowed coaching position at Xavier.

OVER 100 WINS AND COUNTING

Xavier head coach Chris Mack has recorded a 111-57 (.661) mark overall and stands fourth on Xavier's all-time wins list after his first five seasons at the helm. Mack signed a contract extension in the off-season that goes through the 2019-20 season. 

Mack, 44, has led Xavier to the NCAA Tournament in four of his first five seasons at the helm, including the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Mack led Xavier to Atlantic 10 Conference Regular Season Championships in 2010 and 2011. 

XU finished in the top 25 of the Associated Press and/or USA Today/ESPN Poll three times in his first four seasons in charge. 

Mack is very familiar with postseason tournament play. In fact, 2014 marked the 14th NCAA Tournament for Mack, including two as a player and 12 on the coaching staffs at Xavier and Wake Forest. 

Mack has strong ties to all three of the other Xavier head coaches that have reached 100 career wins at XU. PETE GILLEN (202 wins in nine seasons from 1985-94), SKIP PROSSER (148 wins in seven seasons from 1994-2001) and SEAN MILLER (120 wins in five seasons from 2004-09) are the three coaches ahead of Mack on the all-time wins list. 

Mack played under Gillen and then-Gillen assistant Prosser and he worked on the staffs of Miller at Xavier and Prosser at both XU and Wake.

AWARD WINNER

Mack was selected as the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year by his fellow A-10 coaches. In addition, Mack was the recipient of the 2011 Skip Prosser Man of the Year award, which is sponsored by CollegeInsider.com. The Skip Prosser Award was established in 2008 to honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it as well.

HISTORY MADE IN THE 2009-10 SEASON AS A ROOKIE HEAD COACH 

Mack, the 2009-10 Basketball Times Rookie Coach of the Year, was 26-9 in his first season as Xavier's head coach. He was the winningest first-year head coach in Division I for the 2009-10 season. He was the only rookie head coach to lead his team into the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Mack became the first Xavier head coach to guide XU to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in either his first or second season. Mack led Xavier to a 20-win season, the first time in school history that a coach has led a team to 20 wins without at least two seniors on the roster. He also accomplished that feat with no returning double-figure scorers from the 2008-09 season. In fact, Mack won 26 games, tying him for the best total ever for a Xavier rookie head coach.

COACHING SUCCESS STORY

Mack, who was born December 30, 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio, is the 17th head coach in program history. Prior to being named Xavier's head coach on April 15, 2009, Mack spent 5 seasons as an assistant on Sean Miller's Xavier staff. Prior to that he was on the staff of the late Skip Prosser both at Xavier and at Wake Forest.

LEARNED UNDER PROSSER AND MILLER

Mack was XU's Director of Basketball Operations from 1999-2001 under Prosser. 

Mack spent 3 seasons as an assistant coach at Wake Forest under Prosser from 2001-04. 

He returned to Xavier from 2004-09 as an assistant coach under Miller. 

During those 10 years on the Prosser and Miller staffs at Xavier and Wake, Mack coached on nine teams that made postseason play, including eight teams that made the NCAA Tournament field. Those eight NCAA teams made the NCAA Second Round three times (2002, 2003 and 2007), the NCAA Sweet 16 twice (2004 and 2009) and the NCAA Elite Eight once (2008).

XAVIER PLAYER AND GRADUATE

Mack, a 1992 Xavier University graduate with a degree in communication arts, is the fifth Xavier alumnus out of 17 all-time head coaches to take over the Xavier men's basketball program. 

Mack was a two-time team captain as a player at Xavier under then-head coach Pete Gillen. 

He won an MCC Regular Season Championship at 12-2 and reached the second round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Mack was the 1987-88 Cincinnati Post Metro Player of the Year at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati before going on to start for two seasons at Evansville under Jim Crews, winning an MCC Regular Season Championship and a trip to the second round of the 1989 NCAA Tournament as a UE freshman. 

He transferred to Xavier after his sophomore season.

BASKETBALL FAMILY MAN

Mack and his wife, Christi, have two daughters, Hailee (8) and Lainee (9), and a son Brayden. 

Christi has a basketball background and was a 2014 inductee into the University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame, the Director of Basketball Operations for XU's women's basketball team (2001-03) and more recently as the former head girls basketball coach at Cincinnati's Colerain High School.
