Jack Ross

Jack Ross was appointed Head Coach in November 2019.

Though he has long been regarded as one of the brightest up and coming touchline talents in Scotland, Jack initially made his name as a player.

Starting off in the youth ranks at Dundee and Forfar Athletic, he cut his teeth as a first team player during a successful stint with Camelon Juniors.

Clyde spotted his potential and Jack would go on to wear the captain's armband before he opted for a switch to Hartlepool United.

Falkirk tempted him back north, where he played under former Hibernian captain and manager John Hughes, before subsequent spells with St Mirren, Hamilton Academical and Dunfermline Athletic.

Forced into early retirement by a debilitating knee injury, Jack can also look back with pride on an appearance for the Scotland B team in a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland under George Burley back in April 2009.

After hanging up his boots, Jack wasted no time in turning his hand to a career in coaching.

Acting as assistant manager to Alan Adamson, he would go on to support another former Hibs captain in Ian Murray - with the pair earning rave reviews for their work with The Sons.

Jack spent a year on the coaching staff at Heart of Midlothian before branching out on his own at Alloa Athletic - leading The Wasps to a club-record 10-game winning streak.

St Mirren came calling in October 2016 when they were adrift at the bottom of The Championship.

Written off by many onlookers as certainties for the drop, Jack inspired a dramatic turnaround in The Buddies' fortunes - not only salvaging survival in season 2016-17 but driving them to win the league a year later.

His achievement was recognised with the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year award, while he also earned plaudits for his work with some of the club's bright young players - not least our own Stevie Mallan.

Sunderland secured his signature in May 2018 on the back of successive relegations.

They made it as far as the League One Play-Off Final in his debut campaign - only to lose out to a 94th-minute winner.
