http://www.bigeastcoastbias.com/2015/7/29/9066531/projected-starting-lineup-2015-16-seton-hall-pirates By Sean Saint Jacques  @SSaintj7 on Jul 29, 2015, 9:44a  PG: Derrick Gordon The senior is a transfer from Massachusetts and the first openly gay athlete in the history of college basketball. After all of the controversy from a season ago, it will be interesting to see if the Seton Hall players accept him. No problems are expected with the transition. So far, many who have spoken to Gordon in interviews view him as a class act and ready for the challenge of bringing the Pirates to the NCAA Tournament as he did with the Minutemen . Gordon’s passing ability is good, but his turnover numbers are not even close to where they need to be . The guard averaged 2.7 assists and 2.5 turnovers per game in his last season with UMass . That is roughly one turnover for every assist that Gordon dished out. The defense that Gordon can provide will be crucial for t...

The Big Picture The Bluejays were in an expected retooling mode last year after the magnificent Doug McDermott era ended . They continued their emphasis on strong perimeter play last season (5 players made at least 43 3-pointers ) and were much more competitive than their 14-19 record indicates. The Bluejays suffered four one-point losses and lost five more games between two and four points . Coach Greg McDermott has only one true returning starter , but he’s got many other experienced choices for his starting lineup. He can plug in a pair of quality transfers who figure to contribute immediately along with a group that includes 5 freshmen and a junior college hopeful . Who’s Back: Forward Toby Hegner , a 6-10 sophomore, averaged 6.7 points and 3.4 rebounds while starting 28 games as a rookie .  Junior guard Isaiah Zierden , a sharp perimeter shooter , averaged 9.5 points until going down with a knee injury in February.  Guard James Milliken finished strong last...

The Big Picture Last year, the Pirates got through the first half of their BIG EAST schedule with a 5-4 record, but they slipped in the second half and settled with a 6-12 league mark and a 16-15 record overall . Last season’s heralded freshman recruiting class is back with a year of seasoning under its belt and coach Kevin Willard expects two graduate transfers to provide some immediate experienced help as Seton Hall attempts to move up in the standings. Who’s Back Angel Delgado and Isaiah Whitehead were part of the top-level recruiting class and both enjoyed strong seasons. Delgado, a 6-9 forward, was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year after averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. He won the BIG EAST rebounding crown by averaging 10.7 boards in league games. Whitehead, the BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year , overcame a foot injury in the middle of the season and averaged 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds . Khadeen Carrington was in the guard rotation last year and ave...

http://www.icgaels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=866430 Entering his third season as head coach of Iona College , Kevin Willard continues to build on the foundation of his program. With a second solid recruiting class under his belt, Willard’s Gaels will look to continue to compete for the MAAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament Appearance. During his first year as a head coach - and first in New Rochelle - the Gaels finished with 10 more victories than the previous year, one of the top turnarounds in NCAA Div. I in 2007-08. He instilled his foundation of up tempo, aggressive play with an emphasis on having fun playing the game of basketball to his young team.   At 33, Willard is one of the youngest coaches in Division I.   In 2008-09, his squad boasted one of the youngest lineups in the nation with 8 freshmen and 3 sophomores . Scott Machado set a new Iona rookie standard for assists and became the third player in program history to win the MAAC’s Rookie ...
