Maximilian Philipp joins VfL Wolfsburg on loan

VfL Wolfsburg have strengthened their attacking department with the signing of Maximilian Philipp on loan from Dynamo Moscow. The 26-year-old, who can operate in a variety of positions across the front line, arrives from the Russian Premier League outfit on a one-year deal and will wear the number 17 jersey for the Wolves.
Following the signings of Bartosz Bialek, Maxence Lacroix and Ridle Baku, Philipp is the fourth new face at Wolfsburg this summer.
“Very good talks”
The Bundesliga is familiar territory for Philipp, who scored 20 goals in 88 Bundesliga appearances for former clubs SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund.
The Berlin native made 29 competitive outings for Dynamo last season, registering 9 goals.
In 2017 he helped Germany win the U21 European Championship alongside VfL midfielders Maximilian Arnold and Yannick Gerhardt.
“The year in Moscow allowed me to develop both as a player and especially as a person, and was a great experience,” Philipp said. “However, over the last few weeks and months the feeling of wanting to return to the Bundesliga has been growing more and more, and to test myself against the competition there. I’m delighted now that I’ve got this opportunity to come to Wolfsburg because even before I had some very good talks with Jörg Schmadtke and Marcel Schäfer, I was aware of VfL being a very professionally run club following a clear strategy that I fully identify with.”
“A player who can make the difference”
“In Maximilian we’ve brought in the high-quality reinforcement we’ve been looking for,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
“We were interested in him last year, so it’s all the nicer that it’s worked out now. Not only can he play in a number of positions in attack, but his presence, commitment out on the pitch and his unwavering will to win make him the kind of player who can make the difference.”
