His father, Dennis Wilson, is a 20-year veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Sergeant First Class and he currently resides in Anchorage, Alaska. His career included stops in Germany (where Derrick was born), Louisiana, Texas, Turkey, Georgia and Alaska. He also served in Operation Desert Storm while stationed with the unit in Texas.
