Huddersfield Town completed the permanent transfer of Jon Gorenc Stanković from German side Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee in July 2016.

The 21 year-old centre back signed a four year contract running until the summer of 2020, with the Club having the option to extend the deal by a further year at that point.

Born in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, Jon is capped by his country at Under-21 level and had recently called up to the nation’s senior squad for the first time.

The 6’ 3” tall defender was already well known to Town’s Head Coach David Wagner; the pair worked together at Borussia Dortmund II once the player signed for the Club in 2014.

Jon began his career at Slovenian side NK Domžale, where he made his senior debut as a 16 year-old.

After his first 11 appearances for the First Team, he was signed by Borussia Dortmund on an initial loan deal.

He spent his debut season playing for David Wagner’s Under-23 side, making 31 starts in the 3. Liga; the third tier of German football.

Last season he continued to play for Dortmund II in the Regionalliga West, making another 31 starts. His performances led to an appearance on the First Team bench in the Bundesliga towards the end of the campaign.
