words: CHRISTIAN GIORDANO © Sky Sport Italy © -- March 16, 2024 The most resistant puncheur in the world, the fastest Milan-San Remo ever -- 46,112 km/h average speed winner, blown away the 1990 Gianni Bugno's 45,806. Jasper Philipsen, won the 115th Classicissima di primavera burning in via Roma, after 288 km starting from Pavia, the Australian Michael Matthews, at his third podium in San Remo (after two third places), and the Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, with the rainbow jersey and reigning winner Mathieu van der Poel the other super favourite, who was however at his seasonal debut on the road. The final up and down the Poggio climb is - since 1960 - the last quarter of an hour of humanity that is worth a whole career. Pogačar attacked twice, at -6.5km and -5.9km, but something in his UAE Emirates' race plan did not work, especially with super domestiques Marc Hirschi and Diego Ulissi. Alpecin-Deceuninck team exploited their own B-plan, which Ineos' Tom Pidcock twice - and B...

By Michael S. Schmidt and Maria Newman Oct. 2, 2007 A jury ruled today that Isiah Thomas, the coach of the New York Knicks, sexually harassed a former team executive and that Madison Square Garden, the owner of the team, improperly fired her for complaining about the unwanted advances. The jury, in Federal District Court in Manhattan, also ruled that the former executive, Anucha Browne Sanders, is entitled to $11.6 million in punitive damages from the Garden and James L. Dolan, the chairman of Cablevision, the parent company of the Garden and the Knicks. Of that figure, $ 6 million was awarded because of the hostile work environment Mr. Thomas was found to have created, and $5.6 million because Ms. Browne Sanders w...

These stats provide the story of midfielder Cesare Casadei ’s mixed fortunes this season. The young Italian midfielder spent the first half of the campaign playing fairly regularly on loan at Leicester City in the Championship before being recalled by parent club Chelsea in January. He has barely enjoyed a kick for the Premier League side since. Casadei cannot add to his game time until Chelsea host Burnley on March 30 at the earliest. The Italy Under-21 international is ineligible to play in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at home against Leicester having already represented Enzo Maresca’s side in their third-round win over fellow second-tier club Millwall in January (rules dictate you cannot ...

HARVEY GLASSBROOK AUG 27, 2023 3:00 AM EDT There are a lot of layers to the longstanding feud between NBA icons Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas. While the origin of this beef has been debated for decades, one former teammate of the Chicago Bulls icon believes that the root of this dispute was all about territory. What started it? One popular theory is that Thomas conspired to “freeze out” Jordan during the 1985 All-Star Game . Jordan started the game as a rookie but ended up with only seven points. However, Thomas has long denied the allegation, saying, “that never happened.” Regardless of whether there was truth to the accusation or not, the seeds of animosity were planted then and only grew through their battles in the Eastern Conference and even up to the...

Milan-Sanremo celebrates its 115th edition this Saturday March 16. It's a race that has often been described as the easiest Monument to finish, but the most difficult to win. The uncertainty of the outcome marks its personality, the distinctive feature of which lies in the nearly 300 kilometres that have been maintained since its creation in 1907. It’s a route that links the Padana plain in the north o...

Becky Wirth  - Jul 12, 2016 Southern Methodist University Philly.com On July 9, Larry Brown announced his resignation as head coach of Southern Methodist University's basketball team after four seasons. This was Brown's 13th head coaching position and third head coaching position for a college team. After just four seasons with SMU, Brown was able to completely rebuild SMU's basketball program, having three straight 25-plus win seasons and an appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2015. This was SMU's first appearance in the tournament in 22 years. So why did Brown decide to leave? Apparently, it was over a contract dispute. Brown wanted a five-year contract, while SMU was offering only a two or three-year deal. After not being able to reach an agreement, Brown resigned. There have been many criticisms of b...

Brown was formally introduced Monday as the men's basketball coach at SMU , his first college job in nearly a quarter century. The 71-year-old Hall of Famer joked about his age and said he looked forward to coaching "quality basketball with quality student-athletes " at a school that has long struggled to be relevant in Dallas and nationally. SMU has not won an NCAA tournament game since 1988 -- the same year Brown won a national title at Kansas in his last season in college. Brown brushed off questions about how long he would stay at SMU, saying he thought the Mustangs had the resources to compete in the Big East when it joins the conference in 2013. "When I look in the mirror, I get kind...

https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2014/january/why-larry-brown-is-at-smu/ In his second year rebuilding the school's basketball program, the only coach to win an NBA and NCAA championship still loves being in the gym. By Zac Crain | December 17, 2013|12:00 am From  D Magazine January 2014 Subscribe You beat out Kentucky and Kansas to sign point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, one of the top five recruits in the country and arguably the biggest name to ever come to SMU. What does his signing mean to the program? He’s as good a player as there is in the country, and he’s a better kid. He’s from Dallas. He’s got a great family. Those are the kids we gotta continue to sign. We got Keith Frazier last year, out of Dallas, and now Emmanuel, and Emmanuel’s brother, Jean-Michael (a junior transfer from Western Texas College). We’ve got some really good young people coming into our program. That’s huge. Also huge for the program: Moody Coliseum reopens this month, after a $47 million...
