Preview: Creighton at Seton Hall

Jan 08, 2016

Seton Hall had a seven-game winning streak come to an end against No. 16 Villanova on Wednesday, but the future continues to look bright.
The Pirates will try to improve to 3-1 in Big East play when they host Creighton on Saturday.
Seton Hall needs to be careful not to overlook the Bluejays with a brutal stretch coming up that includes trips to Providence and Xavier with a home date against Villanova in between.
The Pirates limited the Wildcats to 36.2% shooting on Wednesday but hurt themselves by going 15-of-25 at the free-throw line in the 72-63 setback.
Creighton's lone loss in the first 3 Big East games was against Villanova as well, and the Bluejays bounced back from that setback by cruising past Georgetown 79-66 on Tuesday.
The triumph marked the sixth in the last 8 games for Creighton, which is averaging 85.5 points in that span.

ABOUT CREIGHTON (11-5, 2-1 Big East):

  • Bluejays guard Maurice Watson Jr. led the way with a career-high 27 points in Tuesday's win and is averaging 17.3 over the last 6 games.
  • The junior transfer scored in double figures in all but 3 of the first 16 games and leads the team with an average of 6.2 assists. While Watson takes care of things on the perimeter, senior center Geoffrey Groselle is averaging 12.1 points on 73.8 percent shooting.

ABOUT SETON HALL (12-3, 2-1):

  • The Pirates have their own strong inside-outside combination with guard Isaiah Whitehead and forward Angel Delgado
  • Whitehead is averaging 18 points in Big East play and, like Watson, he paces the team in assists (4.5) as well
  • Delgado is looking to bounce back from a subpar outing after his 4 points and 4 rebounds on Wednesday snapped a string of 7 straight double-doubles.

TIP-INS
1. Seton Hall G Khadeen Carrington is averaging 15 points in the last 3 games.
2. Bluejays G Isaiah Zierden has knocked down multiple 3-pointers in each of the last 4 contests.
3. The Pirates took both meetings last season by a total of two points.

PREDICTION: Seton Hall 75, Creighton 71
