Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Cologne: probable line-ups, match stats
Luka Jovic and Max Meyer are two winter arrivals looking to impact the outcome of Eintracht Frankfurt clash at home to Cologne on Sunday (kick-off: 3.30pm GMT).
- Jovic made a headline-grabbing return to Frankfurt on loan from Real Madrid in the winter transfer window, and although the Serbia international has already scored 3 goals in 5 games, he is yet to start for Die Adler, with Andre Silva goalscorer-in-chief at the point of their attack.
- Silva made it 8 goals since the turn of the year in last Sunday's 3-1 win at Hoffenheim - a result which sent Adi Hütter's men into the fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualification spot.
- They are without a league defeat since mid-December, and will be confident of extending that run against a side 10 places and 15 points below them in the table.
- But for Aymen Barkok and Markus Schubert, who are only slight doubts, Hütter also has a full-strength squad to call upon for Sunday's game.
- Cologne have been better than their league position might suggest in recent weeks.
- The Billy Goats have won 3 of their last 4 league games, including a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Rhine derby rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach last time out.
- Emmanuel Dennis started at the Borussia-Park last Saturday, but Meyer only watched on from the bench. Building up his match fitness after a difficult spell with Crystal Palace in England, the former Schalke man might have a job getting in the team once fit, even if club captain Jonas Hector is struggling with a muscular injury.
- With neither in action, Elvis Rexhbecaj hit the high notes with both goals against Gladbach and will be confident of keeping his place in the middle of the park.
- Ismail Jakobs left the game on crutches last week. Jannes Horn should occupy his spot on the left.
Match stats
- Silva is the Bundesliga’s leading scorer in 2021 with 8 goals.
- If Frankfurt win, they will pull level with Cologne on 644 total Bundesliga victories.
- The Eagles are the Bundesliga’s most in-form team, taking 19 of a possible 21 points since the turn of the year.
- The Billy Goats are in superb form themselves, however, winning 3 of their last 4.
- New signing Max Meyer has 1 goal from 8 games against Frankfurt. He won two, lost two and drew four against them with former club Schalke.
- Cologne have been much better on the road than they have at home this season, earning 15 of their 21 points on their travels.
