Alexander Jobst to leave FC Schalke 04
Alexander Jobst, director for marketing, sales and organisation, will step down from his role on 30th June. The FC Schalke 04 supervisory board accepted the 47-year-old's decision with regret, but understanding.
Dr. Jens Buchta, chairman of the supervisory board, said: “We are very reluctantly losing Alexander Jobst. The cooperation between him and the supervisory board was always full of trust and professional. FC Schalke 04 are losing a well-known expert, whose successes speak for themselves. We have a lot to thank for and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.”
Jobst stated the reason for his decision was the anonymous hostility and even threats made towards him and his family for some time now. As much as he can understand anger and frustration, he felt a line had been crossed.
Alexander Jobst has been on the board since 2011. As part of his responsibilities, he made a major contribution to the growth of Schalke’s corporate value and increased the yearly marketing revenue to over 90 million Euros. Just last week, he oversaw the extension of the club’s contract with main sponsor GAZPROM until 2025, despite the likely relegation to Bundesliga 2.
Jobst commented: “We’ve already secured marketing revenues for the second division, which most clubs haven’t even got in the Bundesliga. I’m passing over my area of responsibility in a top condition. I am leaving with a very, very heavy heart and it took me a long time to come to this decision. Schalke 04 is one of a kind and has the strength to be successful on the pitch once again, which is what really matters. It was a real honour to be able to work for this club. And I can promise one thing: I will continue to give my absolute all for this wonderful club until 30th June – I owe the employees, the members, the fans and our many partners and sponsors that much.
