Timo Becker signs a deal until 2023
“Timo Becker has fought hard for his place in the team over the past few months and has deserved his spot. After signing Danny Latza, one of the first jobs for the task force responsible for squad planning was to look to get Timo to sign an extension. We’re really pleased that we were able to get this done,” said Peter Knäbel, board member for sport and communication. “Timo’s development underlines the good work being done in our U23s.”
Becker, a self-proclaimed Schalke fan, commented: “Everybody knows how much the club has meant to me since my childhood. As a result, I’m even more motivated to be a part of the fresh start and I want to help write a new successful chapter in the Schalke story.”
From the academy to the first team
The 24-year-old played for the club’s academy between 2007 and 2013, before moving on to Rot-Weiss Essen. The defender then returned to S04 in 2019, initially playing for the U23s. He then broke into the first team and has made 24 Bundesliga appearances so far.
