Anzi. Nel 2017 Ryan ha pubblicato il suo primo libro,  The Ascent: Sean Kelly, Stephen Roche and the Rise of Irish Cyclin...

Hawkins ai Trotters (1963-1967) - Pagliaccio triste come me

Global Spread Don't Mean a Good Thing

by EDWARD PICKERING, EDITOR Procycling magazine, ISSUE 236 / DECEMBER 2017 Professional cycling usually takes it as a given that the spread of racing into new territories and countries is a Good Thing. And on the face of it, who can argue? Ex-UCI president Hein Verbruggen’s ‘mondialisation’ project (built on the foundation of cycling’s earlier forays into the USA and Colombia) has turned cycling into a major international sport. We have big, televised races in South America, Canada, the USA, Asia and all over Europe. And the riders of those countries have grown in quality and number. The races of the old cycling countries have prospered, and they’re bolstered by new and interesting events in new and interesting countries. Everybody’s happy – the fans get more varied racing while the beancounters tap into new markets. However, recent developments have given me pause for thought. The Tour of Turkey may have been a washout on a sporting level, but I also wonder whether cycling,...

The Day Innocence Died

Immagine
http://www.espn.com/espn/eticket/story?page=bias by Michael Weinreb, ESPN It's true, what she says about the graves. I went to see them not long after I heard Lonise Bias tell an incredible story to a group of South Carolina high school students: While witnessing the burial of her son Jay, she looked down and realized she was standing on the grave of her eldest son, Leonard. I had assumed it was a rhetorical flourish, a metaphor crafted for effect by a guest speaker who was getting paid to whack some sobriety into a room of spaced-out pubescents with self-image issues. But then I drove to the cemetery, in a Maryland suburb of Washington called Suitland, and I trudged up a hill, and I found the markers, a couple of rectangles blotched with age, stamped into the dirt and rocks and tufts of grass. And it is true -- there is perhaps a foot of space between her boys. They are, quite literally, resting side by side. The graves, tucked together like this, are a stark te...
