http://www.testudotimes.com/2015/8/5/8817919/maryland-basketball-mark-turgeon By Dave Tucker @TestudoDave on Aug 5, 2015 The first four years of Mark Turgeon's eight year contract as the University of Maryland's men's basketball coach have been a roller coaster of highs and lows for both Turgeon and the program itself. But patience and faith in the man who was hired to pull the program out of mediocrity is finally paying dividends. When Mark Turgeon was hired by Maryland to replace the retiring Gary Williams in May of 2011, many were hopeful that the Texas A&M coach, who had successfully turned numerous program around in previous coaching stops, would bring Maryland basketball back among the college basketball elite. At his introductory press conference, when asked about his style of play, Turgeon quickly won over fans by answering "My style of play is winning." But the winning wouldn't come as fast and as easy as many hoped and expected. Th...

10-20-2015 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men’s and women’s basketball programs welcomed a large media contingent Tuesday for their annual media day at the XFINITY Center. Head Coach Mark Turgeon On this season: “We’re extremely excited about this year. I really like the team we’ve put together. I really like my guys. I like working with my guys. They’re a very competitive group. Whenever we put the score up and the time, they really get after it. As a coach, you feel good about that. Really since all of the expectations started coming in April, our guys have worked really hard. We had a great spring. We had a great summer. We’ve had a great fall. The first 12 days of practice have been really good for us. We’re excited and we’re looking forward to it.” On the team’s depth and setting a rotation : “What a great position I’m in. I made the comment that I think we have eight starters. A couple of starters aren’t playing well, different guys are going to play that night. We’ll find ou...

Non ci eravamo tanto amati. Mai.

Il giocatore-chiave: Melo Trimble (G, So) Andato via  Dez Wells,   chiavi in ...

Aug 10, 2015 Emmitsburg, Md. (August 10, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball coach Jamion Christian has rounded out his 2015-16 roster with the signing of Elijah Long (Mississauga, Ont./John Carroll [Md.]) to a Grant-In-Aid letter. Long averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals as a senior at John Carroll last season after averaging 10 points, four rebounds and four assists his junior season. He played AAU basketball for CIA Bounce. "Elijah is a special player," said Christian. "His ability to score from all over and his intensity on defese will make him a Mount favorite from day one. We want to continue to enhance Mayhem and the signing of Elijah does exactly that. The ability to attract and sign the top players in the state of Maryland has always and will always continue to be a priority for our program. This past season, Elijah was one the most exciting players in the Baltimore Catholic League. His signing shows our abi...

On Monday, the men’s basketball coaches in the Northeast Conference picked the Mountaineers to win the league , marking the fifth time they have been tabbed as the favorite and the first since the 2009-10 season . Never being one to put much stock in preseason polls, coach Jamion Christian said the poll made for “an exciting day” for the Mount program but dismissed it as being little more than “a nice footnote for the beginning of our season.”   “I don’t think it’s ever a bad thing if people think you have a good team,” he said. The Mountaineers recei...

A defender will put two hands on a guard who is driving to the basket. An official will blow his whistle and call a foul. And a fan will yell: “Come on ref, let them play!” What the officials are trying to do this season, through a series of mandates by those who govern the sport, is redefine the way the game is played. After years of discussion, the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee, the Rules Committee and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) agreed that action must be taken to reduce physical play and return the game to its free-flowing roots. Of the rules changes made during the offseason, shortening the shot clock from 35 seconds to 30 ...
