Important games ahead of Augsburg FC Augsburg have lost 6 of their last 7 Bundesliga games and will be looking at the gap between themselves and the relegation zone once again.  They’re currently on a run of 3 straight defeats – a fourth would equal a negative club record , which most recently occurred almost a year ago .  After the game against Leverkusen, FCA have matches against Mainz and Hertha, direct rivals in the fight against the drop. AUG/B-LEV - A worse record than in the Hinrunde Six of Augsburg’s 11 Bundesliga defeats this season have come in 2021 , with no other side losing so many games since Christmas .  They have picked up just 3 points from their four Rückrunde games so far, whilst FCA picked up 7 points against the same opponents in the Hinrunde .  Leverkusen also have a worse record in this respect, picking up just 4 points in their 4 Rückrunde games so far (they picked up 6 points against the same opponents in the first half of the season)...

In midweek, Leverkusen lost their Europa League round of 32 first leg match, going down 4-3 to Swiss club Young Boys in Bern. The three away goals keep them in the tie for the moment, ahead of the reverse leg at the BayArena this Thursday. However, Leverkusen have slipped to fifth place in the Bundesliga after being in the title race a couple of months ago . Leverkusen have won only one of their last four league games, and also got knocked out of the DFB-Pokal after losing to Rot-Weiss Essen. Peter Bosz knows that his side will have to turn results around soon if they are to finish in the top four at the end of the season. Augsburg are 13th in the Bundesliga at the moment, and have just 22 points from 21 games. ...

In-form sides Frankfurt and Köln have both won 3 of their last 4 Bundesliga games, with only FC Bayern and Wolfsburg  winning all of their last 4 games.  Eintracht’s ascent into fourth has taken them into a Champions League spot, whilst Köln’s rise to 14th means they have a buffer of +4 points between themselves and the relegation play-off spot for the first time this season .  Köln’s 3 wins in their last 4 games are more than they managed (only 2) across their first 16 games of this season. https://bundesitalia.com/2020/02/04/jhon-cordoba-colonia/ di Stefano Fontana, Bundesitalia.com, 4 febbraio 2020 Nella versione in spagnolo del sito di Deutsche Welle , emittente televisiva tedesca, un occhio di riguardo è sempre rivolto al Sud America, e in particolare agli emigrati latini in Bundesliga.

Luka Jovic and Max Meyer are two winter arrivals looking to impact the outcome of Eintracht Frankfurt clash at home to Cologne on Sunday (kick-off: 3.30pm GMT). >> Click here for the Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Cologne live blog! Jovic made a headline-grabbing return to Frankfurt on loan from Real Madrid in the winter transfer window, and although the Serbia international has already scored 3 goals in 5 games, he is yet to start for Die Adler , with Andre Silva goalscorer-in-chief at the point of their attack.  Silva made it 8 goals since the turn of the year in last Sunday's 3-1 win at Hoffenheim - a result which sent Adi Hütter's men into the fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualification spot .  They are without a league defeat since mid-December, and will be confident of extending that run against a side 10 places and 15 points below them in the table.  But for Aymen Barkok and Markus Schubert , who are only slight doubts, Hütter also has a full-strength ...

However, the gold was proving elusive. In 1962, Shay Elliott had finished second behind Jean Stablinski in Salò, Italy . Sean Kelly claimed the bronze medal in Goodwood, England , in 1982, and Stephen Roche did the same in Altenrhein, Switzerland, the following year .  Prior to the 1987 Worlds, Roche had claimed a remarkable double when he won both the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France. He had struggled with motivation after the Tour, and instead travelled to Villach, Austria where that year’s race was taking place with the aim of helping his teammate Kelly win the race.  Following on from the Tour, Roche took part in a number of criteriums back in Ireland. However, he crashed toward the...

https://www.podiumcafe.com/2010/9/27/1714556/a-worlds-tale-stephen-roche-villach-austria-1987 The record books only tell you so much. They tell you that Stephen Roche won the World Championship road race in 1987. They may even tell you it was the crowning glory in a year which had already seen him win the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. What the record books don't tell you is how he won the race. How he and Sean Kelly and Martin Earley and Paul Kimmage - l'Equipe had punningly dubbed them the nouvelle Éire - formed what was probably the strongest Irish team ever to take the line at a World Championships.
