#5 Wes Morgan (D)

A powerful organiser, Wes Morgan made history as the first ever Leicester City player to lift the Premier League trophy, at the end of the 2015/16 season...

Wes Morgan joined City from East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest in January 2012 and has been nothing short of a colossus in defence since being named Club captain.

Morgan’s leadership and consistent performances in 2012/13 brought him many plaudits and eventually saw him scoop the Club’s Player of the Year award just days after being named in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.

Committed and strong, Morgan made countless tackles and blocks for City as part of a defence that conceded just 48 goals all season – only Cardiff and Brighton conceded fewer.

In 2013/14, the same was true as Morgan featured in all but one of City’s league games to helped them become the third-best defence in the league and seal himself another spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Season after he lifted the trophy in May.

After making the step up to the Premier League for the 2014/15 season, the skipper performed a key role both on and off the pitch for the Foxes as the players responded brilliantly to setbacks to eventually secure safety with a game to spare.

His performances at the back alongside Marcin Wasilewski and Robert Huth were one of the high points of the campaign – they kept five clean sheets in the last seven games of the season.

Nottingham born and schooled initially at Notts County before joining Forest at the age of 15, Morgan has been in the Reds' first team setup for eight-and-a-half years and made over 400 appearances for the City Ground club prior to joining the Foxes.

Following a brief loan spell with non-league Kidderminster the previous March, Morgan made his Forest first team debut in August 2003 at the age of 19 and would go on to become a huge favourite at the City Ground.

He was a central figure in the Forest side that won promotion from League 1 in 2008 and has been one of the Championship's outstanding central defenders since.

During the 2010/11 season, he was an ever-present for the Reds in all competitions and was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year as Forest reached the play-offs.

In April 2015, Morgan was named in the Football League Team of the Decade alongside team-mate Kasper Schmeichel.

An ever-present during the 2015/16 title-winning campaign, Wes became the first player in Leicester City history to lift the Premier League trophy.

His influential displays were rewarded in July 2016, when the skipper signed a new three-year deal running until June 2019.

Morgan notched up 39 appearances for City during the 2016/17 season and scored his first UEFA Champions League goal for the Club during the memorable 2-0 win over Sevilla.
