Coming off a disappointing 10th place finish last season, Freiburg opted to bring back its entire core roster. Freiburg failed to register a shot on target against Bayern Munich in a 3-0 defeat last fall. In March, Lucas Höler found a last minute goal to salvage a 2-2 draw in Munich.
Christian Streich, who has managed the club since 2011, made an emotional exit back in March to pave the way for longtime Freiburg midfielder-turned-assistant Julian Schuster.
