Red Bull Leipzig is entering its ninth season in the top flight of the Bundesliga. With the financial backing of a corporate owner, Leipzig skyrocketed through the lower divisions and has never finished lower than 6th place.

Leipzig are the current holders of the DFL-Super Cup after defeating Bayern 3-0 last August. Bayern came from behind in September in salvage a 2-2 draw. Harry Kane scored a stoppage time goal to steal three points in March with a 2-1 victory.
